School Tour Guidelines

Tour Guidelines and Registration

NOTE: Each teacher needs to register for their own class. Please do not schedule for others.

CHAPERONES
1 chaperone per 10 students is required. Chaperones assist with group behavior management and gallery transitions. No more than 2 chaperones per 10 students; paraeducators and instructional assistants cannot be a chaperone. Children and siblings under 18 years of age are not eligible to be chaperones.

COVID-19
Tours follow the museum’s overall COVID-19 safety policies. Please visit our Safety Guidelines page to check on our current policies related to COVID-19, including the status of masks.

CANCELLATIONS OR CHANGES
To cancel or request a change to your scheduled tour, please email tours@nelson-atkins.org. Please include your name, phone number, confirmation number, name of school, and date and time of your scheduled visit. Tour cancellations are requested within at least 48 hours of the scheduled tour date.

Please note that any changes to the date, time, and/or theme of your tour will need to be submitted through a new Tour Request form. At least three weeks’ advance notice is required for submitting all changes.

LUNCH
The Nelson-Atkins does not have a designated space indoors for groups to eat lunch. However, groups are welcome to eat outdoors and enjoy the Sculpture Park. In the case of inclement weather, the museum cannot provide an indoor eating space.

BUS DROP-OFF & PICK-UP
Enter the one-way, circular drive off of 45th Street between Oak Street and Rockhill Road and drop students off at the East side by the Bloch Building. All groups must enter and exit through the designated Bloch Building entrance doors.

PARKING
Bus parking is limited to designated areas facing north on Oak Street.

Vans and public vehicles pay $14.00 to park in the museum garage.

Limited free parking for cars is available in the northeast parking lot (45th before Rockhill) and on the west side of Oak Street on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

The Nelson-Atkins in Kansas City is recognized nationally and internationally as one of America’s finest art museums. The museum opens its doors free of charge to people of all backgrounds.

The Nelson-Atkins serves the community by providing access to its renowned collection of more than 42,000 art objects and is best known for its Asian art, European and American paintings, photography, modern sculpture, and Native American and Egyptian galleries. Housing a major art research library and the Ford Learning Center, the Museum is a key educational resource for the region. In 2017, the Nelson-Atkins celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the Bloch Building, a critically acclaimed addition to the original 1933 Nelson-Atkins Building.
