Art Course is an artist-designed mini golf experience located in the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park. Each stop on the nine-hole course presents a creative interpretation of a work of art in the museum’s collection.


Pricing

  • Adults: $18
  • Members: $14
    Discount ticket limits vary by membership level. See membership info for more details.
  • Ages 4-12: $12
  • Ages 3 and under: Free
    Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Every Art Course ticket includes general admission to the Nelson-Atkins.

Reservations

Players, including museum members and children, are required to reserve their tee times. We encourage guests to book in advance, but on-site reservations are available on a first come, first served basis. Each tee time is limited to 12 people.

In the event of inclement weather — including rain and excessive heat — affected tee time holders will receive a voucher to reschedule their experience for a future time. Read our full inclement weather policy.


Hours

Art Course is open weekly, April 5-Oct. 20, during regular museum hours. In the summer, tee times are available Thursday through Monday. In the spring and fall seasons, play is limited to weekends, Friday through Sunday.

About your session

Getting here

Plan to arrive at the museum at least 10 minutes prior to your scheduled tee time, to account for parking and check-in. Art Course is located in the Donald J Hall Sculpture Park, on the south side of the Nelson-Atkins building.

Each ticket is valid for one entry into Art Course at the specified tee time. One round of golf takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour to complete.

Getting started

To check in to Art Course, go to the Putter Pick-Up station, where your ticket will be scanned and you’ll receive a putter, a ball, and a scorecard.

Stollers and accessibility

Standard-size strollers are welcome. However, please note that stroller access may occasionally be limited. For your convenience, stroller parking is available at the start of Art Course. Please check with museum staff upon arrival.

Five of the nine holes are wheelchair and mobility aid accessible. Please contact our Guest Services team at 816-751-1278 for information about accommodations.

Food and drinks

The snack bar, open during Art Course hours, proudly serves local favorites and a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and snacks.

Picnic tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis, but may be reserved for private events.


Event rental

Find the right package for your next private or corporate event.

Package 1

$50 per person | Group minimum of 25 people
Includes:

  • One round of Art Course
  • Two snack tickets and two drink tickets per person
  • Garage parking for attendees

A $300 deposit is required at the time of booking. The remaining event balance is due five business days prior to the event along with the guaranteed attendance count.

In case of inclement weather:

Groups will be asked to reschedule to a later date/time

If the event is before 2 p.m., a weather call will be made 24 hours prior.

If the event is after 2 p.m., a weather call will be made by 10 a.m. the day of the event.

Package 2

$75 per person | Group minimum of 15 people
Includes:

  • One round of Art Course
  • Charcuterie and sandwich lunch selections
  • Two drink tickets per person
  • Unlimited bottled water and soda
  • Garage parking for attendees
  • Reserved outdoor event space

A $500 deposit is required at the time of booking. The remaining event balance is due five business days prior to the event along with the guaranteed attendance count.

In case of inclement weather:

  • A weather call will be made at 10am the day before the event.
  • In case of inclement weather, groups have two options:
  1. Keep their scheduled event time and enjoy their food and beverage in Rozzelle Court or another indoor space. Guests will receive individual golf vouchers, which can be used for a round of golf at a later date.
  2. Reschedule to a different date and time for their round of mini-golf, food and beverage.

If there is a weather interruption during play, individual vouchers for a complimentary round of Art Course will be issued to all attendees that may be used at a later date and time. Food and drinks can be enjoyed inside the museum, in Rozzelle Court.

Discounts and member presale
All Nelson-Atkins members receive discounts on adult Art Course tickets and advance access to tickets before they go on sale.

To ensure that you receive your member discount, log in using the primary email address associated with your membership. Once you’ve selected a tee time at checkout, the discount will be applied to your cart.

Group discounts
Depending on their membership level, members also receive a certain daily number of discounted tickets for guests in their party:

  • Society of Fellows: 20 discounted tickets

Cancellations & Refunds

Missed or rescheduled tee times
If you miss your scheduled tee time, you’ll need to reserve another tee time for that or another day. If you are later than 15 minutes past your tee time, you will need to visit the Info Desk in Bloch Lobby to reschedule. Tee times can only be rescheduled if the Nelson-Atkins is notified on the same day as your reserved tee time.

Missed tee times from previous days will be considered no-shows and cannot be rescheduled. No refunds will be allowed for missed tee times.

Weather and refund policies
Art Course is an outdoor activity and may be subject to elements beyond our control. Inclement weather is defined as significant rain, lightning, or tornado warnings that would make playing Art Course unsafe. A call to clear or close the course due to inclement weather will be made by the museum’s security team as necessary. Course and weather updates can be checked in real time at 816-751-1278.

In the event of inclement weather, affected tee time holders will be offered a rain voucher to reschedule their experience at a future time. Refunds will not be offered.
