FOA Council Application

The Nelson-Atkins Friends of Art Council (FOA) is a volunteer board that assists The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art by advocating, stewarding, and raising funds on behalf of and through membership.

The Friends of Art Council values the benefits that diversity can bring and is committed to fostering an unbiased and inclusive culture. The Council seeks to be composed of talented and dedicated members with a mix of experiences, skills, and backgrounds to collectively represent the diversity of the membership of the Nelson-Atkins and the communities served by the museum.

What We Do:
The FOA Council helps plan, enhance, and/or execute the following events in collaboration with Nelson-Atkins staff:
• Bark in the Sculpture Park
• Sketch Club en Plein Air
• Night/Shift
• Member Appreciation Weekend
• Member Date Night
• Member Special Exhibition Openings

What Is Expected:
Upon election to the Council, members must:
• Maintain a valid and active Nelson-Atkins membership in good standing throughout the three-year tenure
• All new volunteers will agree to a background check screening
• Attend at least two-thirds of required Council meetings per year
• Participate in four or more Council or Nelson-Atkins sponsored events per year
• Serve on at least one standing committee or subcommittee
• Assist with program planning and program execution in collaboration with museum staff
• 4-6 hour commitment per month
