[1] Backer (1901–1965) was a London and Rome-based dealer in porcelain, portrait miniatures, and other objects of vertu. He sometimes bid for the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. This name (Backer and H. E. Backer) comes up in Starr correspondence (see letter of October 11, 1955, University of Missouri-Kansas City archives, box 22, folder 9). He is also listed in the Philbrook Museum of Art object and donor records as H. E. Backer.
