Curatorial Notes

This miniature, which contains an unusual floral still life on the back, is a copy after an original miniature by Jean-Urbain Guérin in a private collection. We are grateful to Bernd Pappe for his discovery of the original example by Guérin and his insight on the attribution of this portrait during a visit to the Nelson-Atkins from July 24–26, 2023 (see Bernd Pappe, “Attribution Report,” August 6, 2023, Nelson-Atkins curatorial files).
