Virtual Screening

Frequently Asked Questions

What are virtual cinema screenings?

Virtual cinema screenings are ticketed screenings of films unavailable on any other platform that viewers can enjoy from the privacy of their own home. Once you purchase a ticket, you will receive access to a temporary film rental.

How do I watch the films?

Each film will be available through the individual distributor’s website and streaming service. By clicking the link to rent, you will go to the film’s website where you can purchase and watch the film. Although you leave the Tivoli’s website, a portion of your ticket will help support the Tivoli at the Nelson-Atkins.

How can I get the film to stream on my tv?

The easiest way to get content from your computer to your TV screen is with an HDMI cord. If your TV allows you to log on the internet (a smart tv), here is a helpful resource that can navigate you through that process.

Will I have to create a new account for each new release?

We regret that distributors control how films are accessed and that there will be different requirements from each in order to screen their films. You should never give out information you are uncomfortable sharing, and while we can’t control how individual distributors permit access, we promise to diversify our recommendations so you always have something stellar to watch.

I just purchased the film, but I don’t see how to watch it?

First, check your email and confirm the purchase went through. The email should reference the film you rented in the title, and have a link for you to watch the film. Often times, you can immediately watch the film through the same website where you rented it. If you are still having issues, please submit a support request, here.

I’m a Nelson-Atkins Member, is there a member price?

Unfortunately, not at this time, but don’t worry! We are extending your member benefits while the museum is closed. These rentals help us ensure that we are able to do that, and if you would consider an additional donation to the Nelson-Atkins, you can do so here. Thank you for your support!

About Tivoli at the Nelson-Atkins

Shortly after The Tivoli theater closed its doors in Westport, former theater owner Jerry Harrington approached the Nelson-Atkins with an innovative idea. With a little work, the museum’s beautiful and historic Atkins Auditorium could transform into an arthouse theater and become the new home for Tivoli Cinemas. Jerry himself would lend his film and audience expertise and curate a compelling programming plan.

Thanks to the visionary leadership of The Sunderland Foundation, Shirley and Barnett C. Helzberg, Jr., Neil D. Karbank, Estelle and Morton Sosland, G. Kenneth and Ann Baum, Evelyn Craft Belger and Dick Belger, Robert & Phyliss Bernstein Family Foundation, Donald J. Hall, Sara and Bill Morgan, and Mark and Lynne O’Connell Tivoli at the Nelson-Atkins was created.

Important Stuff

We will make every effort to stick to regular showtimes, however, the museum reserves the right to cancel or change showtimes that conflict with festivals, priority programming or pre-arranged event rentals. Please always check the website calendar for details.

There is no special pricing for children, students or seniors on Tivoli tickets. Discounted memberships for students and seniors are available onsite only.

Special events will be ticketed separately with additional cost.

Auditorium Rentals

Atkins Auditorium is available to rent for private events and film screenings. Contact Event Planning at events@nelson-atkins.org or view information.
