New Museum Members Will Receive Free Membership for Their Hero
Kansas City, MO. Sept.1, 2020 – As The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City prepares to reopen to the public on Sept. 12 after closing in March due to the pandemic, a special membership drive has been kicked off to honor local heroes.
“So many unexpected heroes surround us every day during this unprecedented time,” said Julián Zugazagoitia, Menefee D. and Mary Louise Blackwell CEO & Director of the Nelson-Atkins. “We want to recognize these heroes with the gift of art for an entire year. Perhaps this will help give solace in some small way to those who have worked so hard to contain the coronovirus.”
Each museum membership sold will allow the purchaser to gift an entire year of membership to anyone they choose. The Nelson-Atkins, through this campaign, recognizes the essential work of so many frontline workers: teachers, healthcare professionals, and restaurant and supermarket employees. But there are also neighbors, friends, even strangers who perform simple acts of kindness and show enormous courage. The free membership can be gifted to anyone who has had an impact on the purchaser’s life.
Each member enjoys unique invitations to events and virtual programming, free parking, and special discounts all year long. Membership ensures the long-term vitality of the Nelson-Atkins, supporting its mission to keep art free and accessible to all. All current memberships have been extended three months from the reopening of the museum. This special two-for-one offer applies to both new memberships and membership renewals.

Hours are Monday, Wednesday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; Thursday/Friday, 10 a.m.–9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. The museum is closed Tuesday.
