Print Society | Visit with Norman Akers

Free for Print Society members; $10 for all others

Mr. Akers is an accomplished artist with work in collections around the country and he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Visual Art at KU. He was born and raised on an Osage reservation in northeastern Oklahoma and earned his BFA at the Kansas City Art Institute. He also holds an MFA from the University of Illinois and a Certificate of Museum Training from the Institute of American Indian Arts. Akers’ art seeks to engage people in examining important issues, and he explores issues of identity and culture from his perspective as a Native American artist. The Print Society voted for Akers’ lithograph Dark Reign to be acquired by the Nelson-Atkins earlier this year.

Meet at Mr. Akers’ Lawrence studio. An event announcement with the address will be sent to the Print Society member email list. If you are not a Print Society member and would like to attend, please register for the event, then contact printsocietyinfo@nelson-atkins.org for details about the location
