Saturdays, July 13 & 20
Instructor: Heinrich Toh
In conjunction with the featured exhibition 30 Americans, this mixed media workshop explores our individual history and layered identity, by combining process, material and concepts. We will view specific artworks in the exhibition that provide examples, inspiration and a platform to create artwork utilizing paint, collage, drawing materials and transfer processes with paper lithography on an etching press. By using your own personal materials (photocopies of photographs, letters, family heirlooms, etc.,) we will build layers through experimentation with color, composition, pattern, shape and imagery, creating content, personal narratives and dialogue. Some previous art making experience is recommended. Participants should bring photocopies of personal materials and a lunch – all other supplies are provided.
Heinrich is a Singapore-born studio artist and educator based in Kansas City. His work is inspired by culture, heritage, travel and layers of memory. He serves on the Community Advisory Group for the 30 Americans exhibition.
