Monday– Friday, July 6–10
Instructor: Valda Hsu
Experience the unification of Chinese calligraphy and painting with brush and ink techniques as you gain an understanding of the philosophy behind the two art forms. Capture the timeless beauty of fish, birds and critters seen in the imperial garden of China. Learn the techniques of two painting styles: “gongbi” which is careful, realistic and detailed, and “xieyi”, a freely expressive approach. Be inspired by the elegant, flamboyant and poetic approach for this theme. Class will visit the exhibition Lively Creatures: Animals in Chinese Art.
