American Art: 1776-1900

Students will gain insight into how the art of early America reflects the cultural, social, economic and environmental attitudes of the period. Influences considered include the population shift, westward expansion, technology and the rise of industry. Artists studied include Thomas Cole, George Caleb Bingham and John Singer Sargent.

Appropriate for grades: 4th-12th
Maximum students: 75

School tours are FREE, one hour and 15 minutes in length and are available for grades 2-12.

School groups may bring sack lunches and picnic on the grounds of the Kansas City Sculpture Park. Teachers are responsible for making alternate arrangements in inclement weather. There are limited facilities for students who are scheduled for an All-Day Visit to eat sack lunches inside the Museum. Request to eat indoors must be made at the time of registration and are on a first-come, first-served basis.
