K-12 Tours – New Year, New Changes

Discover and Learn | Your Group Visit to the Nelson-Atkins

Due to upcoming construction to the museum, the 2015-2016 school years will be experiencing scheduling changes.

Beginning August 1, 2015:

  • We will be no longer offer "All Day Visits" due to limited space. School groups may come for one workshop or one tour a day.
  • Tours will be offered at 10:15am, 11:15am or 12:15pm. Please schedule accordingly.
  • Teacher-Led Groups are highly discouraged.
  • The following tours will NOT be available due to construction:
    • Chinese Collection Tour August 1st - May 31st
    • French Collection Tour: August 1st - May 31st
    • Secondary Explorations A: August 1st - May 31st
    • Tomb Treasures: January 1st - May 31st
  • "Inside Reserved Lunch Spots" are unavailable due to limited space.
    • Groups are welcome to eat lunch outside on the South Lawn without reservation.
    • Groups who purchase lunch through Rozzelle Court will be permitted to eat inside at Rozzelle court.

Beginning January 1, 2016, School Tours will only be available on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Using the Common Core State Standards as a foundation, tours are designed to build critical thinking skills while exploring the museum collection.

Highlight Tours are designed to provide students with an introduction to the Museum's overall collections; Collection Tours explore one area of the Museum's collection; Thematic Tours are an experience that link collections and Featured Exhibition Tours bring the Museum’s outstanding collection of art together with magnificent works from private collections and world-renowned art institutions.

School tours are FREE, one hour and 15 minutes in length and are available for grades 2-12.


Rozzelle Court Restaurant offers $7.50 box lunches for school groups. Orders must be placed in advance with Event Planning.
