Roxy Paine has been praised for his supple, improvisational touch with a material as resistant
as steel.
At his studio in Treadwell, NY, a model was made to work out the complex configuration of a three-dimensional Dendroid structure. Then, Paine and his staff created the sculpture Ferment from shining pipes, plates and rods of stainless steel.
The pieces were transported on a flatbed truck and permanently assembled at the Nelson-Atkins in April 2011.
