Religious Subjects: A Variety of Approaches

April 1, 2006—September 25, 2006

This exhibit presented 23 works by Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo artists. Highlights included works by masters Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt van Rijn and Il Guercino. Drawings and prints on view exemplified the extraordinary range of stylistic, technical and interpretive choices used in depicting of Biblical subjects from Abraham and Moses to scenes from the life of Christ and the Apocalypse.

Most images in the installation had not been exhibited for many years, because works on paper are particularly prone to deterioration from exposure to light. Selections and themes rotate every six months to protect the art.
