We have always had a special place in our hearts for the Nelson-Atkins. As young people, the Museum offered us a place for quiet reflection and constant inspiration.

The 15 photographs designated as 75th Anniversary gifts from the Hall Family Foundation have brought the number of that ongoing gift to a breathtaking 8,000, completely transforming the Photography collection and firmly establishing its international reputation.
Augustus Washington’s daguerreotype portrait of the abolitionist John Brown is one of the most riveting images on view here.
In addition, works such as the Photography Society’s gift of Fazal Sheikh’s contemporary portrait Simran, New Delhi, India; Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison’s gift of their Channel; and Jeffrey and Polly Kramer’s gift of Fred Zinnemann’s Grand Central have further underscored the prominence of the collection.
